Deccan Chargers Hyderabad(DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)will miss overseas stars in opening match of IPL 3

In the first of 60 matches, Kolkata Knight Riders, who've won only nine out of 28 previous IPL matches during campaigns fraught with controversy, would love to hit the ground running.

Kolkata's build-up to Friday's opening game has been quieter than in the first two seasons. They appointed a coach who prefers to stay behind the scenes; they named one captain for the entire tournament rather than pass the responsibility around; and they've had fewer chest-beating advertisements on television. Their owner, Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan, has, by his standards, flown under the radar. One of the few off-field developments that made headlines was their new purple and gold strip.

Deccan Chargers finished last in the opening season, winning only two games and none at home in Hyderabad. They too made significant changes - a new captain and coach - for the second season in South Africa and were surprise winners. However, they are not among the most formidable teams this season: their squad contains overseas players, who are either out of form or short on match-practice; their bowlers had struggled to contain on India's flat batting surfaces and were more effective in South Africa.

Kolkata Knight Riders have only six overseas players to choose from at the moment: Brad Hodge, Owais Shah, Ajantha Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Mashrafe Mortaza and Charl Langeveldt. The likes of Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle, David Hussey and Shane Bond will join the squad only after their international commitments.

Ajit Agarkar did not train on the eve of the match because of a calf strain and is likely to sit out as well. Kolkata signed up an Under-19 player, Mandeep Singh, 48 hours ago and he is reportedly in their scheme of things.

Deccan don't have a choice regarding their overseas players for the first game. They have only four in the squad so Adam Gilchrist, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds and Chaminda Vaas will play. It's a bit of a concern since Gilchrist, Symonds and Vaas have been out of competitive cricket while Gibbs has been struggling for form with South Africa. They have a strong Indian contingent, though, with VVS Laxman and Rohit Sharma bolstering the batting, and RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha leading the bowling.

In Langeveldt, KKR possess a clever bowler capable of taking crucial wickets and Gilchrist's will be the prize scalp. Langeveldt played only one game last season so, if given an opportunity tomorrow, he'll be keen to stake his claim before Shane Bond arrives.

"Everyone team is affected by the international schedule. It is not a surprise. We are only one of the teams who are not full-strength as yet. But it is about the Indian contingent and how they perform that can often determine the results."

Adam Gilchrist isn't too concerned by the shortage of overseas players for the first game.

"It's a new set up at KKR. We have done the best in everything we can, hopefully we will deliver. I am not too keen to talk about the past. We have a good atmosphere."

Sourav Ganguly isn't dwelling on poor campaigns of the past.

For the first time in the history of Indian sports, cricket lovers can now watch live matches in their neighboring theatres and enjoy the stadium-like frenzy.

UFO Moviez will show DLF IPL 2010 matches live on gigantic screens in cinemas across India. The matches will be screened in High Definition Digital format without commercial interruptions. Live matches in theaters will enhance the revenues of multiplexes & single theatres and tax collection for the government.

The theatres will have cricket related merchandises, exciting gifts; multi cuisine food stalls etc to cater to the entire family. To add to this excitement, a number of screening places will have cheer leaders and live bands.

UFO Moviez has entered in a strategic alliance with multiplex chains like Cinemax, INOX, Fame, PVR and others and also have partnered with single screen theatres for screening the DLF IPL T-20 matches starting from March 12, 2010.

Sachin Tendulkar stated, "This is a brilliant initiative especially for interior regions of our country where cricket fans can not experience the stadium energy. I am happy to give away this first theatre ticket and wish all my fans a wonderful experience in theatres."

IPL3 Live Streaming on Youtube, live IPL 2010 T20 matches by Google's Youtube for all countries except US

IPL3 T20 matches will be streamed live on YouTube in every country except the US – calling into question the value of TV rights

YouTube has confirmed its first live major sporting deal, announcing today that it will host live Indian Premier League cricket matches in the UK, and casting into doubt the value of British TV broadcast rights.

The YouTube deal involves every country outside the US – a significantly larger scope than reports had suggested. It was thought that YouTube would only stream live matches to countries that did not have TV deals with the IPL.

The two-year deal gives the Google-owned YouTube the exclusive rights to stream IPL matches online, with the two companies splitting revenue from sponsorship and advertising.

In the UK broadcast rights were held by Setanta, which closed last year, and have yet to be sold on. A spokesman for the IPL said that a TV rights deal for the UK would go ahead. "The dedicated loyal fanbase will still want to watch on TV," he said.

The value of YouTube's deal was not disclosed. However, the IPL originally sold its internet rights to the Dubai-based company netlinkblue for $50m over 10 years.

At the time the IPL made it clear that online streaming deals excluded markets - such as cricket playing nations including such as South Africa and New Zealand - where television broadcast deals were in place. In August 2009, netlinkblue's parent company, Live Current Media, sold its IPL contract to Global Cricket Ventures for $1.75m, which worked with the IPL on the latest deal.

HSBC lead sponsor of IPL 3 To be streamed live on YouTube, HP & Samsung associate sponsors

Even as IPL garners an envious lineup for sponsors for the most-watched T20 event, YouTube is also looking to get some big SPONSORS on board.

YouTube, world's largest online video-sharing site, has signed on HSBC as one of the lead sponsors for the live online streaming of IPL matches. Further, the sponsors who are coming on board on YouTube are being classified under Gold and Silver sponsors with brands like HP and Samsung also evaluating the potential of the medium.

YouTube, in its first major sporting deal, recently acquired a two-year rights to host IPL matches live for an undisclosed sum.

When contacted, a Google spokesperson confirmed that HSBC has been signed on as one of the sponsors. "We are excited by the response that live streaming of IPL matches in YouTube has evoked amongst advertisers in India," said the spokesperson. "HSBC is one of our sponsors and beyond this, we are unable to comment on.

IPL- a good platform to groom future India players: Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Indian Premier League works as a good platform to find and groom talented youngsters, who may go on to play in the national team, according to India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

"I want to make more players for ourselves. We are grooming Indian players from under-19 or players on the verge of making debut for India. All those individuals rubbing their shoulders with international cricketers from India and overseas help them in learning cricketing skills," Dhoni said.

Citing an example, Dhoni said players who made a mark in the first edition went on to play for the country.

"We had Manpreet Goni, Murali Vijay and S Badrinath coming into the side. And Suresh Raina is becoming a great player. We are contributing a lot towards Indian cricket. Overall, we are trying to groom the Indian cricketers for the betterment of the game in India," Dhoni, who leads Chennai Super Kings, said.

Dhoni said that the current rule of having a limited number of foreign players in the side gives them a chance to try youngsters and was in favour of continuing with it.
